ACT Government greenlights $220,000 in grants
Nearly 40 of Canberra’s community organisations have been awarded Community Support and Infrastructure grants by the ACT Government, as part of the government’s commitment to supporting the organisations Canberrans benefit from every day.
The grants are awarded under the following four categories: Community Support and Capacity; Non-fixed Infrastructure and Equipment; Minor Capital Works and Fixed Infrastructure; and Community support for children in care.
Minister for Community Services and Social Inclusion, Rachel Stephen-Smith said, “The many applications are a testament to Canberra’s strong and inclusive community. These organisations provide vital services and community connections to thousands of Canberrans.”
Among the successful projects for this year’s funding listed by Ms Stephen-Smith were renewal of the Waniassa District Girl Guides community hall; a kitchen upgrade for Woden Seniors Inc; a facilities upgrade at Companion House, based in Cook; and a communication systems upgrade for Beryl Women Inc.
Ms Stephen-Smith also announced $125,000 of new grants to help local community organisations to establish or enhance their digital capacity. Successful recipients include Indigenous Reading Project; Tuggeranong Link of Community Houses and Centres ACT; Ginninderra Catchment Group; and The ACT Deafness Resource Centre.
Ms Stephen-Smith said she was pleased to note that many of the applications came from Canberra’s diverse multicultural community. “These grants demonstrate the ACT Government’s ongoing commitment to ensure that all Canberrans can reach out, share culture and participate in Canberra’s civic life,” she said.
