TFE Hotels will operate a beautiful new Adina Apartment Hotel Grand, Canberra, further expanding the brand’s operation to the Australian Capital Territory.
The contemporary new design hotel will be part of an exciting $300 million development by Capital Property Group at the corner of Constitution Place and London Circuit, where two purpose-built buildings will set a new standard in environmental design.
The hotel will be designed by architects Bates Smart, who designed the stunning Vibe Hotel Canberra Airport, which has earned several design and construction awards from the Master Builders Association and Architects Institute of Australia since it opened in 2015. The new apartment hotel will occupy the lower four levels of the building with the floors above used as commercial office space. The development will also include a number of cafes, restaurants and retail outlets, in addition to a three-level basement carpark with over 600 spaces.
The new Adina hotel will have 132 rooms, offering guests a choice of studio, one bedroom and two bedroom apartments. Typical of all Adina Apartment Hotels, it will offer the best of both worlds, combining spacious apartment living with hotel services and facilities. Guests will be able to enjoy 24-hour reception, room service, knowledgeable concierge service and a well-equipped gym.
The inner-city location will put guests within easy walking distance of the casino, convention centre, main shopping centre and the celebrated London Circuit cultural hub which houses the city’s theatre centre, civic library and museum and gallery. Parliament House and the city’s other major attractions are also nearby and guests will be well placed to walk or jog around iconic Lake Burley Griffin.
Many major bus routes service the area and the carpark will be a major drawcard for those on their way to nearby ski resorts or using the hotel as a base to explore the wine regions.
TFE Hotels CEO Rachel Argaman said it was a milestone achievement in the group’s development to add an Adina hotel to Canberra’s burgeoning hotel scene, particularly given the large numbers of Government and corporate travellers the city hosted each year. The number of Adina Apartment Hotels in Australia is set to grow from 30 this year to nearly 40 in the next five years.
“While Canberra will always have a steady flow of corporate travellers, it’s now emerging as a great destination for leisure travellers,” she said. “It offers a wonderful selection of history, art, sporting and cultural events, and is gathering a following for its food and wine scene. I think we will see its popularity grow substantially over the coming years as increased tourism funds the development of more and more attractions for both the domestic and international traveller.”
The team behind the transformation of Canberra Airport and the development of Canberra’s most remarkable new suburb, Denman Prospect, will begin construction in the middle of this year on the $300 million project, and expects completion in 2020. The two buildings, next to the ACT Legislative Assembly, represent the first private sector development on the Vernon Circle side of London Circuit, east of Northbourne Avenue.
Capital Property Group Managing Director Stephen Byron said the 9000sqm site would accommodate 20,000sqm of offices for the ACT Government over five stories, as well as 20,000sqm of 12 storey commercial and residential accommodation, and the new Adina Apartment Hotel.
“The project embraces environmentally-sustainable design as a cornerstone of the approach and we will be working towards delivering the first WELL rated building in Canberra,” he said.
